"Head Over Heels:
Shoes with Heart & Sole"

"The shoes [Jennifer Perkins] wears most are the ones she got in London a few years back. 'I spotted these men's tennis shoes with a purple toe, hot pink heel, orange stripes, aqua trim, green tongue, yellow trim and various rainbow dots along the rim of the rubber sole,' she says, 'and my heart melted.' Fortunately, they had a small enough size for her or there might have been tears."

"So what does [Joan Boorstein]wear to the Emmy Awards? A favorite pair of sling backs: 'They have enough padding in front for a nice feeling of balance with the height of the heel,' she says. 'They give me equilibrium and don't make me lean forward.'

"[Sherene Hulugalle's] father gave Sherene her favorite pair of shoes following a business trip to Japan in 1978. The three-inch platform geisha shoes with a vinyl strap across the top were ceremonial, not practical, and meant for illusion rather than the reality of Sri Lankan roads and typical teenage vanity."
